Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, twitter all the world's top social media sites faced blackout on Wednesday.
"During one of our routine maintenance operations, we triggered an issue that is making it difficult for some people to upload or send photos and videos. We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience," a Facebook spokesperson told CNN Business, on behalf of its other apps Instagram and WhatsApp.
Twitter has not given any official confirmation but instead tweeted about the outage.
"We're currently having some issues with DM delivery and notifications. We're working on a fix and will follow up as soon as we have an update for you. Apologies for the inconvenience," Twitter (TWTR) said in a tweet
This is not only happening in India but USA and European countries are even more badly affected, whatsapp and Instagram are completely down in Europe and America.
Reason? Well as far as the sources confirm it's some kind of bug which penetrated the servers.
Is it a cyber attack? Till now there is no sign of this to be a cyber attack but the fact that few selected websites from the same niche are affected raise concerns.
There is this one more coincidence of this happening just 2 day after the World Social Media Day (30 June).
No official statement about the time it will take to fix the issue but there are fake rumours that it can take a week. Don't panic, while this world wide Internet crisis is a matter of concern, experts and cyber team are putting all their efforts to bring the seemless experience back to the users.
