Expressions'19
10th April,19
10th of April at Ram Lal Anand College saw the concept of women and the status of women coming up as a wider aspect. The English Literary Society's fest consisted of a speaker session that was adorned by the words of wisdom coming from the magnanimous personalities, Adv. Monika Arora and Miss Lalita Nijhawan. The theme they shared their views on was 'The Indian perspective on Women'.
The event began with the lightening of the lamp by the guests of honor and Saraswati Vandana. The books were presented to the guests as a warm welcome for it is believed that the bouquets don’t last as long as the books do. Books are our evergreen friends.
A welcome speech was given by the Convener of Ubiquitous, the English Literary Society of the college, Dr. Prerna Malhotra followed by that of our revered principal, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Gupta where they welcomed the guests and discussed a bit about the topic. The Principal showed his gratitude towards Ms. Nijhawan for her motherly position that she had for him concerning their lives at Ram Lal Anand College and how she was a senior as well as an inspiration for him.
Ms. Lalita Nijhawan was then welcomed upon the dias to address the audience and share her thoughts regarding the status of women in India. She shared her personal experience at Ram Lal Anand College as well which gave an opportunity to the students to connect with her. Nijhawan very well elucidated the idea of the comparison that takes place in the two genders. “Why do we women compare ourselves with men? We are already ahead of them!”, she said giving elevation to the concept of feminity itself. Through her words she encouraged womanhood.
Adv. Monika Arora, with a strong introduction of hers describing how she took strong steps to pave way towards various alterations in the society, was requested to come to the dias and bless the audience with her words. “Every individual is fifty percent male and fifty percent female, so why to compare!” believes Arora referring to the Hindu belief that God is half man and half woman and therefore, women should be considered no less. The audience was spellbound by the lines she quoted out of Hindu mythology.
The interactive session took place immediately after the speakers were done with their speech. The students sitting in the audience asked and got their queries cleared out by the guests related to gender, thoughts on women as per Hinduism, and women’s status as a whole.
At length, the session ended with the presenting of the Angavastra to the guests as a sign of honour and reverence by the Principal.
The event continued with competitions. The 'Enact a tale' competition took place at first where the participants had to enact a tale on the topic Indian perspective of Women. The participants talked about gender and gender equality and presented themselves in a way that touched the hearts of the audience. The second prize was grabbed by Aniket from Ram Lal Anand College and the first prize was won by Sufyan Khan from Jamia Millia Islamia College. The teachers encouraged their efforts with the giving away of the certificates and a book to each of them.
The second event of the day Spellathon took place then in which the students participated enthusiastically and spelled some words that aren’t used in day to day life.
The third event Confessional Space took place then where all the people sitting were handed over a sheet of paper to pour out their feelings on it. These confessions were then read out by the anchors under the light of anonymity.
