As the year approaches and beginning of the college paves its way, the hike in the fee structure becomes seemingly visible. Ram Lal Anand College proposes its fee structure of the year 2019-20 for the first-year students. In comparison to the last year’s fee structure (2018-19), the fees for various courses have shown a minimum increase of 10%. Fees for general students in Bachelor in Humanities/ Social Sciences has increased from 9K to 10K and that for Bachelor in Commerce has increased from 12K to 13K. Fees for general students in Bachelor in Microbiology/ Statistics/ Mathematics has risen from 13K to 14K and that of B.Sc. Hons. Computer Science has risen from ₹49240 to ₹59240 respectively. Whereas, in different courses fees varies according different categories (i.e. SC, ST, OBC and others).
Expenses for the field trip will be paid by the concerned student. The fee charged from foreign students will be as prescribed by the University of Delhi in addition to the college fees.
As it is liable from the University norms, 10% increase becomes necessary. However, what would be the impact of this increase on the admission is an intrinsic question. If we think about it, a general perception comes out to be that the admissions will decrease due to the increase in fees. But, in practical world, this minor difference doesn’t matter to students, rather students can do anything to be a part of DU. The label actually works!
Computer Science Department Hit Hard -
But is increment of ₹10,000 justified for B.Sc Hons Computer Science in RLAC, when other DU colleges fee for the same course range between ₹25,000 - ₹40,000. RLAC CS department already had the highest fee (₹49,240) last year compared to other DU colleges and now an increase of ₹10,000 lifted the sum drastically to ₹59,240. Compiled fee for 3 year degree in Computer Science (H) form Ram Lal Anand College would cost you around ₹1,80,000 (1 lakh 80 thousand). This will not only decrease the number of admissions but will make the course inaccessible to students from not-so-good background. RLA college cite "Insufficient funds" as the course is self-funded and therefore the fees needs to be revised.
All the pressure of new fee structure will fall on the students. The increase in the fees is not acceptable to many Computer Science students form RLAC. But the irony is that no student party or student leader raised their voice against this fee hike, hopefully they are waiting for the DU election season to start. In our conversation and interview with students of CS (H), they said that the fee is already too much and now this increment will be difficult on their parents' pockets. We believe there should be a better way than putting all the fund related pressure directly on the students.
